Changing Life : Worthy Life

I moved to Chonburi and stayed with my friend. Let’s give him an alias “Tai” so as to protect his identity. Tai is a normal salary man. Even though he does his daily work, he is different from others: he drinks, smokes, complains excessively, has a testy and erratic behaviour and even enjoys chastising dogs! He never thinks of himself as being in the wrong. My parents are the wrongdoers, he would proclaim, but he forgets that they gave him life!

The average salary man is always worried about money to make ends meet. This issue never once bothered Tai. He would finish his salary within the first week of payday. I have not heard him grumble about it before. It got me wondering, why do people keep complaining? It seems like thinking positive would make it much easier to lead life…

Tai owns a blue car. His transportation means takes him to only two places: the office and the pub. Majority of his time is spent at either one of those locations or in his room (due to a bad hangover). Tai has a bad habit of flaunting his money especially when he is drunk. Due to the frequency of his drinking, he gradually built good rapport with private taxi drivers so they would ferry him around (to continue drinking). Never once do they reject Tai’s calls even in the wee hours; he gives them big tips. Sometimes, the drivers are unable to meet his requests on the places he wants to go to, so he would ask to be driven to the airport.

During one of our drinking episodes one day, Tai persuaded me to take a plane to Kao Samui (till today, I still have no idea why we went there!). The flight was at 5.00am and the journey took 50 minutes. In his drunken state, Tai thought of himself as having consciousness. He decided not to travel if he rented a room, so he rested in a car I recognised as a Vios. I drove around Kao Samui while he slept. My HR colleague called me, which was a situation I expected since I had only taken leave for the day before. Tai’s HR colleague tried to reach him as well, but I knew that he had the intention of resigning from his job. However, Tai had recognition for his excellent accounting skill, so his boss begged him to return to work. He changed his mind and decided to go back, but we had run out of money for the return tickets. We had to take a bus instead. I remember the moment when we were on the top deck of the ferry, smoking. That one scenery was my favourite from this trip.

Anyone who spends time with Tai will know how to have a good time. Sleeping hours are never meant for that purpose. You are never punctual for work. On the hindsight, it was a miracle that he managed tolast this long with a job! Well, it was probably because of his accounting skills… Tai knew whom and when he borrowed money but sometimes, he forgets when he needs to pay back. Haha…

He had an argument with a colleague recently and has moved back to his hometown last week. I continue to be concerned about him. Everyone has advised on how he should socialise with people but he never listens. He has never changed, but he is a smart man. I do not worry about his career or money, but his health. We can help him out during tough times, whether it is with monetary or wisdom, but we are unable to give him good health.

Now, it is time for my third change. For Tai though, it may be change number 10, but he is still the same. Please keep in mind of your past experience, Tai. Good luck to you, my friend!
